Let’s Be Honest About LED Retrofitting!
Clearing Up Misconceptions
The term retrofitting evokes a wide range of interpretation for many lighting manufacturers. And because of the word’s ambiguity, the discerning public needs to be properly informed in making the best decision regarding their project or municipalities’ needs.
Be wary of the many LED companies offering simple "one size fits all" retrofit solutions. If it sounds too good to be true...
Ask yourself these key questions:
- Have the manufacturer’s retrofit kits been tested by independent labs to LM-79-08 and LM-80-08 standard for thermal management inside the luminaire for the intended use?
- With each fixture family having a unique set of properties - air, space and surface area, and an independent approach to heat sink and dissipation - could one universal retrofit kit really perform optimally in all types of fixtures?
- When switching lamp sources, for example HID to LED, is your existing fixture thermally designed to accept and drive the LED retrofit optimally?
- How long have these companies been in business and what warranties do they offer?
Don’t be Fooled by LED Retrofits...Beware of Imposters as:
- Most LED retrofits offer reduced lumen output
- Most retrofits offer reduced energy savings
- Most retrofits offer reduced longevity
- Most LED retrofits have only been tested outside the fixture
Ease of Conversion
You can rest easy by knowing every single UNRIVALED™ luminaire retrofit includes the optics, thermal dissipating roof housing, and LED system components for easy exchange and upgrade of any existing Sternberg installation, and any non-Sternberg Lighting installations with the universal fitter dimensions of 8 inches in diameter. All UNRIVALED™ retrofits are tested within the intended fixture to LM-79-08 standards.

All UNRIVALED™ systems are designed and engineered to easily retrofit into existing luminaires in the field.

| 1. Using an Allen wrench, loosen all screws far enough to remove existing acorn globe. | 2. Carefully remove globe/roof assembly and set aside. | 3. Release both latches and remove. Simply remove lamp and ballast assembly by unsnapping quick disconnect wires. | 4. Lift new UNRIVALED™ retrofit assembly into place and reconnect quick connect wires. New LED luminaire fits snugly into existing fitter. | 5. Simply tighten all four Allen screws, and you're done. 10 minute change-out maximum. |
